I just finished watching Vegucated and I have to admit: I cried. A bit. I would have even more if I forced myself to watch the horrible parts of factory farming, but I turned my head away because I couldn't bare the suffering of these animals who did nothing to deserve the pain and death they went through. Unfortunately I looked at one of the wrong times and saw someone putting an electric bolt into a pigs head who ended up squirming around on the floor. I lost it there and had to go grab the tissues.
I'm just so surprised that more people don't know about the treatment of animals and what the animals have to go through before they end up on someone's plate. I want to help make a difference and help people become more educated, but it is hard to do when I bring up the subject and they declare, "Oh, I couldn't live without cheese." Uhm. Yes. I am fairly positive that it won't kill you if you give up cheese. In fact, it will probably make you live longer if you do.
I am lucky enough to have Bob's Red Mill near my house and had a very lovely lunch there with my mom. I had a delicious veggie sandwich with Daiya cheese. It was DELICIOUS. I convinced my mom to try a bite and she said she couldn't really tell the difference between the Daiya cheese and regular cheese. :)
